Thankful for family...

It was great to head over to Sandy & Mark's for Thanksgiving dinner. Grandma & Grandpa came over and we were so glad to see Dawn, Terry and Amanda who all made the trek down to the desert at 5 a.m.! We had lots of yummy food (including a delish corn casserole...recipe to follow!). Mark, I'm sure, missed my usual contribution of green bean casserole but I thought I'd try something different. GG always wanted to bite into a turkey leg so we saved one for her and put it on her plate and she went for it...funny stuff GG! See Sandy's blog for the family picture. We tried to get the SKYPE hookup and talk with the fam in Bend but it wouldn't work....bummer, we missed you Meg & family!

On the way home we said what we were most thankful to the Lord for: Madison -- our family and the freedom to worship God, Chelcie -- our family and even having parents who are strict but that she knows love her very much, Doug -- that God has provided for him to keep his job and provide for our family (most in his company have been laid off) and as for me...witnessing God's amazing provision over this year has been life changing. He is so good and faithful to us, even changing our hearts with regard to our desires. Also, God's amazing presence and work in the lives of people at our church. I am also very thankful for my wonderful husband and the girls, who God has entrusted to us.

A Proclamation by the President of the United States of America

Words from our President....

Thanksgiving is a time for families and friends to gather together and express gratitude for all that we have been given, the freedoms we enjoy, and the loved ones who enrich our lives. We recognize that all of these blessings, and life itself, come not from the hand of man but from Almighty God.

Every Thanksgiving, we remember the story of the Pilgrims who came to America in search of religious freedom and a better life. Having arrived in the New World, these early settlers gave thanks to the Author of Life for granting them safe passage to this abundant land and protecting them through a bitter winter. Our Nation's first President, George Washington, stated in the first Thanksgiving proclamation that "It is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor." While in the midst of the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln revived the tradition of proclaiming a day of thanksgiving, asking God to heal our wounds and restore our country.

Today, as we look back on the beginnings of our democracy, Americans recall that we live in a land of many blessings where every person has the right to live, work, and worship in freedom. Our Nation is especially thankful for the brave men and women of our Armed Forces who protect these rights while setting aside their own comfort and safety. Their courage keeps us free, their sacrifice makes us grateful, and their character makes us proud. Especially during the holidays, our whole country keeps them and their families in our thoughts and prayers.

Americans are also mindful of the need to share our gifts with others, and our Nation is moved to compassionate action. We pay tribute to all caring citizens who reach out a helping hand and serve a cause larger than themselves.

On this day, let us all give thanks to God who blessed our Nation's first days and who blesses us today. May He continue to guide and watch over our families and our country always.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim November 27, 2008, as a National Day of Thanksgiving. I encourage all Americans to gather together in their homes and places of worship with family, friends, and loved ones to strengthen the ties that bind us and give thanks for the freedoms and many blessings we enjoy.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twenty-first day of November, in the year of our Lord two thousand eight, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-third.

TURKEY BOWL!!!

Early this drizzly morning, Chelcie headed over to the church for a high school flag football tournament....the Turkey Bowl. Each team had to have 2 girls so her friend Kenzie's brother (Tyler) recruited Chelcie and Kenzie. Their team "Cool Whip" made it to the semi-finals but lost (52 - 19)! Chelcie scored 2 touchdowns and the extra point on one of the touchdowns....go girl, way to represent!

Madison was so excited to receive a letter from the recipients of last year's Operation Christmas Child box! Madison's box was received by 12 year old twin girls (Shormi & Shimmi) and they live in Bangladesh! Madison has had fun learning about their country. They enclosed their address so Madison has already written a letter to them. This is the first time in about 10 years of doing this that we have ever received a letter back.....lots of fun!

Ready for waterpolo!
Downey vs. Warren

Friday night we headed to Downey for the rival football game....it sounded like a good idea until we were sitting in traffic and it took us over 2 hours to get there. Check out Sandy's blog for the great story of how we even got into the sold out game and for lots more pics! Funny but we are still Viking fans at heart and wanted to see them pound those Warren Bears! It was a great game and fun to see the Viking victory. Didn't see too many of those victories when we went there (sorry Babe...go #28!) Anyway...the half time show was, well, interesting...it was kind of a salsa style of music with a guy and girl singing in Spanish. I was a bit stumped. At one point I asked Chelcie to translate some of what we were hearing and all she could come up with was "Sombrero"....nice! Let's just say that the demographic has changed a bit over 20 years....Fun times. We ended the night by driving through Tommy's (oh yeah!) and heading home.

Farewell to volleyaball...

Well it's been a long season dating back to August! Today was the final game...sad loss to Palm Desert. It was a fun season and Chelcie was a great sport even during some real trying times with her coach. We are so proud of you Chelc!

Monday starts WATERPOLO!!! Stay tuned.

What a life!

The morning after....

I Timothy 2:1-3

"I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. As you make your requests, plead for God's mercy upon them, and give thanks. Pray this way for kings and all others who are in authority, so that we can live in peace and quietness, in godliness and dignity. This is good and pleases God our Savior,"

Romans 13: 1-5

"Obey the government, for God is the one who put it there. All governments have been placed in power by God.  So those who refuse to obey the laws of the land are refusing to obey God, and punishment will follow.  For the authorities do not frighten people who are doing right, but they frighten those who do wrong. So do what they say, and you will get along well.  The authorities are sent by God to help you. But if you are doing something wrong, of course you should be afraid, for you will be punished. The authorities are established by God for that very purpose, to punish those who do wrong.  So you must obey the government for two reasons: to keep from being punished and to keep a clear conscience."

WOW....yes Lord, thanks to my husbad for the reminder!

Heavenly Father: We come before you today to ask your forgiveness, and to seek your direction and guidance. We know your Word says, "Woe to those who call evil good", but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery. We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare. We have killed our unborn and called it choice. We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable. We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self esteem. We have abused power and called it politics. We have coveted our neighbors possessions and called it ambition. We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression. We have ridiculed the time honored values of our fore fathers and called it enlightenment. Search us, O God, and know our hearts today; cleanse of from every sin and set us free.
