This weekend was Madison's turn to head off to camp. Her and Doug headed out Friday afternoon to Forest Home Christian Camp. Doug went as a counselor for the 2nd year. Being surrounded by girls all the time, it's a nice change to hang out and be boys once in a while! They had some dusting of snow while they were there....quite a sight for our desert rats. Thanks to Lolo for the new, pink scarf she knitted for the occasion. They had a great time and got home Sunday afternoon. Thank you Gramalene for a wonderful Christmas present!
President's Weekend Greetings.....
NOT! Spent the whole weekend sick with a cold. The girls were hanging out with Lolo and the twins so that was fun for them. Check out Sandy's blog for details on all of the festivities. She was a life saver when she asked if the girls could come and spend the night! Doug worked Friday and Saturday night at his valet job (thanks for bringing home that bacon Honey!). I sat home Saturday night curled up on the couch in my "Mimi blanket" and hot tea and watched Steel Magnolias and Father of the Bride and cried. Pretty pathetic really but it was all I had in me. Much better now so I've got to get caught up on blogging......
With tear filled eyes we bid farewell to Nilnara. "Nil" grew up from the age of 11 in the Davis Lar Orphanage that our church supports in Brazil. Nil got to come to the U.S. a year ago to go to High School at La Quinta High. She has lived with our Student Ministries Pastor and his family during this time. Over this past year we have all come to just love and adore Nil. She has an amazing testimony of God's protection and provision for her life. She heads back to Brazil to see what awaits her there. There was a going away party for her and it was great to see so much love extended to Nil. We will get to keep up with her through email. Madison and Nil have a real special bond that has been very sweet to watch. They were hugging until the very last second. Our prayers are with Nil and she will forever be in our hearts!
Welcome Papa & Mimi!
Papa & Mimi (aka: my Dad and his wife, Sheila) are now in on the blogging addiction! We're keeping it in the family Jeff....it's all about Big Folio. So fun to check out their new digs in Idaho. Quite honestly, just lots of snow right now....looks just like Bend (hee hee!). Just so you all know, we broke 70 degrees yesterday so I think the "brunt" of our desert winter is about over. Yeah, yeah, we know....August is coming but for now, we'll take it!
Thankful for His watchful eye.....
Malachi 3:3 says: 'He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver.'
This verse puzzled some women in a Bible study and they wondered what this statement meant about the character and nature of God.
One of the women offered to find out the process of refining silver and get back to the group at their next Bible Study.
That week, the woman called a silversmith and made an appointment to watch him at work. She didn't mention anything about the reason for her interest beyond her curiosity about the process of refining Silver.
As she watched the silversmith, he held a piece of silver over the fire and let it heat up. He explained that in refining silver, one needed to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames were hottest as to burn away all the impurities.
The woman thought about God holding us in such a hot spot; then she thought again about the verse that says: 'He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver.' She asked the silversmith if it was true that he had to sit there in front of the fire the whole time the silver was being refined.
The man answered yes, he not only had to sit there holding the silver, but he had to keep his eyes on the silver the entire time it was in the fire . If the silver was left a moment too long in the flames, it would be destroyed.
The woman was silent for a moment. Then she asked the silversmith, 'How do you know when the silver is fully refined?'
He smiled at her and answered, 'Oh, that's easy -- when I see my image in it.'
If today you are feeling the heat of the fire, remember that God has his eye on you and will keep watching you until He sees His image in you.
Chelcie headed off Friday to Big Bear for Jr. High snow camp with church. With the recent Southern Cal storms there was lots of snow! Here are a few pics......
Welcome February!
This marks the month of expressing our love for one another. This morning I was reminded that there is no better example of love than what Jesus did for us on the cross:
FEBRUARY = F His love is FOREVER! (Jeremiah 31:3) E His love is ENOUGH! (Psalm 107:9) B His love is BEAUTIFUL! (Psalm 27:4) R His love is REDEEMING!(Eph 1:7,Gal 4:4-7) U His love is UNBREAKABLE!(Rom 8:35-39) A His love is AWESOME! (Psalm 146:6-7) R His love is our REFUGE! (Psalm 57:1) Y His love is for YOU! (John 3:16)
